Hair as a purely aesthetic detail? Not at all. In a world where appearance is increasingly becoming a language of self-presentation, it is hair that creates the first impression, sets the mood of an image, emphasizes individuality, and can reveal more about a person than they might say themselves. But not more than Halyna Marchyshak — a professional hairstylist who, in 2024 and 2025, was part of the styling team at the spectacular Los Angeles Fashion Week.
“Some time ago, professional work with hair was perceived as a set of technical services,” Halyna says. “But times have changed: today it is a kind of architecture of image — precise, meticulously thought out down to the smallest details, and deeply individual.” The Ukrainian stylist has more than 25 years of experience in hair fashion, bridal, and editorial hairstyling. She began her professional journey at the Ternopil vocational school, later strengthening it with education obtained at one of the most prestigious institutions for hairdressing arts in Lviv — the college “All-Ukrainian Courses of Fashion Designers” — in the class of the renowned master Oleksandra Bezverkhna.
Halyna Marchyshak is convinced that working with hair, like architecture, begins with analysis: “A stylist works not only with length or color, but with an entire composition. Face shape, hair structure, neckline, posture, clothing style, and lifestyle — each of these factors influences the final decision.” Winner of the silver award she received at the Ukrainian Hairdressing Championship “World of Beauty ’99” in the nomination “Hairstyle on Long Hair,” she emphasizes that true mastery lies not in a fragmented but in a holistic vision of a person: “A hairdresser must create a shape for the client that does not simply adorn, but actually works for her image.”
Throughout her career, Halyna Marchyshak has always held the belief that a well-constructed haircut is more than just a neat outline. It is a structure that can visually elongate the silhouette, make features softer or more defined, add dynamism or, on the contrary, create a sense of calm and composure. And this philosophy resonated with the Ukrainian stylist’s clients long before it became mainstream in the industry. After her victory in the “World of Beauty ’99” competition, Halyna opened her own hair studio, which immediately gained popularity: appointments for bridal hairstyles were booked a year in advance.
As part of the author’s course that Halyna Marchyshak taught at RomEstGroup, she spoke about hair as a full-fledged tool of visual modeling: “Color, shade, and light-and-shadow all influence the perception of the face and the image as a whole.” It was during her teaching period that the hairstylist actively collaborated with well-known Ukrainian masters, including Londa lead technologist Ihor Romantsev, model hairstyle master Mykhailo Holyk, RomEstGroup founder and director Nadiia Romanets, Lakme chief technologist Serhii Kurmakov, as well as the honorary president of the Hairdressers’ Union of Ukraine — of which Halyna herself is a member — Oleksii Antoniuk.
When asked what, in her opinion, is becoming especially important in the modern beauty industry, Ms. Marchyshak answers without hesitation: “An individual approach.” The author of the scholarly article “Innovative Educational Practices in Professional Training of Designers,” published in 2025, and an official judge of the International Beauty Judging Academy, says that trends change far too quickly, while social media often imposes universal beauty templates: “So professionalism lies not in copying a fashionable shape, but in the ability to adapt it to a specific person.”
Halyna Marchyshak has repeatedly encountered the problem of something looking striking on camera but working poorly in real life. After moving to the United States, she worked in collaboration with Los Angeles Fashion Show by personal invitation from the owner of SAS Movie Studios, served as a stylist at Haute Couture Fashion Show, participated in the creation of fashion looks for the model agency Become a Model USA, and was the lead stylist at the Christmas Reality 2075 Holiday Event in Hollywood and the Miss Nationality beauty contest in 2025.
Among Halyna Marchyshak’s awards are fourth place at Hair Cup Finland in two categories, “Element of Nature” and “Black and White Cinema,” as well as a bronze medal won at the international championship “Grand Beauty Israel” in the “Wedding Hairstyle” category. Halyna created the stage image for Mieenakshi Ravi — Mrs. Universe Elite USA — as well as looks for the Fashion & Music Event. So she knows better than anyone that sometimes a restrained, personalized solution is the most harmonious and the most successful.
“Hair is an important part of nonverbal communication” — this is one of Halyna Marchyshak’s core beliefs, which she promotes through her professional, teaching, and competition work, setting standards and transforming the industry from within. Winner of the “IBA” International Beauty Awards VII (2022) in the nominations “Top 10 Hair Stylist” and “Top Hair Trainer,” recipient of the Art Estate Curated Magazine Fashion Hair Stylist Award (2025), and gold medalist of the XXIX Ukrainian Championship, Hairdressers’ Union of Ukraine (2026), she views hair as a tool through which a person conveys mood, character, inner strength, gentleness, freedom, and creative boldness. That is why, in Halyna Marchyshak’s opinion, her work and the work of her colleagues today requires not only technical excellence, but also a subtle understanding of the psychology of image.
“Sometimes a properly constructed hair shape does not simply change appearance, but helps a person see themselves in a new way,” says the renowned stylist whose work fills the pages of glossy publications such as ECLAIR Magazine, LYBELL Magazine, LOOPLITE Magazine, and MAGIC IMAGE HOLLYWOOD Magazine.
Thanks to a conversation with Halyna Marchyshak, it finally becomes clear what the modern understanding of beauty truly is: not decorative effect for its own sake, but precision and correspondence to the person who will “wear” it. Fashion indeed offers countless images, but the supporting point capable of bringing them together into a single, convincing, and harmonious architecture is precisely hair.
