In March, one of our posts bore the headline, “Andrew Garfield Debuts a Lot of Hair At The “Magic Faraway Tree” Premiere. It has only kept going since, first through Wimbledon, and now at ANOTHER Magic Faraway Tree screening — apparently, it came out only in the UK, and we got it on a six-month delay. (So in March, the tree really WAS far away.) It reminds me of the time when Chris Pine decided to let it all flow out. Based on IMDb, it doesn’t SEEM to be for a movie; all he’s got in pre-production is a biopic of Carl Sagan, who did not from what I can tell ever go through a ’70s shrubbery phase. He was as of January shooting Apple’s Siegfried and Roy series, but he’s playing Roy, whose hair was not QUITE as notably robust? But it did have a phase. Maybe he’s hanging onto this for reshoots. Or maybe he and Monica Barbaro just REALLY dig it. Either way, every Bee Gees joke imaginable has surely already been written, so I will bite that back and instead say that perhaps it’s a tribute to Richard Dean Anderson’s MacGyver. Or Don Johnson in Miami Vice. Sam Elliot would have loved this. And there are almost certainly some baseball and hockey players rocking this right now. I shall not fret about him being gripped with night fever, nor praise him for stayin’ alive. I will not wonder if Monica Barbaro is more than a woman to him, nor ponder how deep is his love, nor reassure him that he has nothing to be guilty of. IT’S NOT HAPPENING.
He approves of my restraint.
