Unveiling New Leadership: Rare Beauty Welcomes Chief Brand and Marketing Visionaries

    Rare Beauty

Rare Beauty just made significant strides in its leadership with the promotions of Joyce Kim and Ashley Murphy to chief brand officer and chief marketing officer, respectively. This announcement came on Wednesday and marks an exciting new chapter for the company.

These promotions follow the exit of founding chief marketing officer Katie Welch, who has transitioned to Chanel as the head of brand and communications in the United States, a move made earlier this year.

Kim and Murphy bring extensive experience to their new roles, having been valuable team members since Rare Beauty was launched in 2020 by Selena Gomez. Kim originally served as the chief product officer, while Murphy joined before the launch in 2019 as vice president of consumer marketing. Prior to Rare Beauty, Kim gained skills at L’Oréal-owned Nyx Cosmetics, and Murphy enriched her background with experience from The Honest Company and Hourglass.

Kim expressed to The Business of Beauty her enthusiasm about the brand’s core values, stating, “There are a lot of things that are part of our brand ethos that other brands have started to adopt. We’re excited to continue being rooted in that, and not wavering and trying to flex with every trend.”

In their enhanced roles, Murphy and Kim are determined to strengthen the brand’s presence in cosmetics and fragrance. They aim to innovate with more user-friendly packaging to enhance accessibility and explore new marketing avenues, including platforms like Snapchat.

“We’re figuring out the next two to five years,” said Kim. “The biggest challenge when you’re a brand of this size is making sure that you are consistent in your messaging and that you’re adapting to the shifts in the industry.”
